House of Light and Shadow is located on a small plot in a district of Tokyo, which allows to develop both house shapes of and an elegant small garden.

The house is divided into two areas: night and day.

The sleeping area is located on the ground floor and as a multi-generational house contains separate bedrooms, bathrooms for homeowners, children and a senior area with an additional kitchenette and separate entrance. It is a shady area, calm and connected with the garden.

The living area is located on the first floor in the form of a separate block. Contains a large living room, dining room, kitchen and exit to the terrace. Above the entresol we can reach the work area (a separate office). The daytime zone is an active zone, full of light.

The main and sunny block of the house attracts more attention. Series of wooden columns and beams change their arrangement, thanks to which the roof has been obtained with an unusual two-curve shape. This creates a sort of shell that transforms the incoming light to create an energetic space.

​

The wooden structural arrangement of the house is a cutting-edge solution. The concentrated alternating columns are transformed into elements of the interior of the house, i.e. stairs leading to the entresol and seats. Thanks to this, the border between the house structure and the equipment disappears.
